DIDAR Event Report | Intellectual Property Management in Iran

August 24, 2023

Today marked a significant milestone in the journey of Intellectual Property (IP) management in Iran. I had the privilege to attend the first-ever DIDAR event, a specialized meeting dedicated to the management of intangible assets. The event delved into the practical aspects, future trajectories, and current challenges of IP management with a keen focus on fostering a culture of innovation and technology.

The event was divided into three enriching sections: expert presentations, networking, and a discussion panel. Each segment was a treasure trove of insights and knowledge.

The first speaker, Dr. Haghjoy Javanmard, from the Vice Presidency of Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, set the tone of the event with an informative session on the fundamental changes envisioned for technology growth in Iran, including registration, protection, and development of innovation.

Next, Dr. Siyamak Eslami, the head of the IPC (Intellectual Property Center of Iran), shed light on the current challenges in the field of patents, trademarks, and industrial designs and the innovations of Iran’s new industrial property law.

As a member of the Iranian Intellectual Property Law Association (IRIPLA) of Iran, I was thrilled to hear about the future educational programs of IRIPLA from Dr. Mehdi Zahedi, especially the exciting internship plan in specialized companies for intellectual property law graduates.

Dr. Mojtaba Tavangar, a member of the Iranian Parliament, provided a comprehensive understanding of the parliament’s legislative process regarding IP and the country’s future IP policymaking.

Dr. Mitra Aminlou, the head of the intellectual property management center, unfolded the dimensions of the center’s support of innovation and technology management, and intangible assets, encouraging us to become active as intellectual property brokers.

The networking segment was a rewarding experience, allowing for the exchange of knowledge and experiences with esteemed professors, specialists, and IP experts.

The event was rounded off with a specialized panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges of IP management, chaired by Ms. Maryam Fouladi, Dr. Farhad Bayat, and Dr. Mehrdad Aalipour Herisi which accentuated practical problems and nuanced challenges of IP management processes.

The DIDAR event was a testament to the growing momentum of IP in Iran and a wonderful opportunity to connect and learn from the best in the field. Extremely grateful for the insights gained and looking forward to future DIDAR events.
